What is BALI style? In this blog post I consider BALI style as a boho chic interiors which offer a harmonious blend of natural materials, ethnic accents and connection to nature. These bright and cozy interiors are highly desirable and inviting living spaces. Here are 7 easy steps to achieve this calm interior style which will support your well-being with a uplifting ambiance.

1. Neutral Color Palette

Start by painting your walls in neutral tones such as white, cream, beige, light grey, off white. These colours provide a calming backdrop in interior design. And its okay to use one color! Using a single color scheme throughout a space creates a sense of unity and cohesion. It eliminates visual clutter and creates a harmonious flow from one area to another, making the space feel more well-organised and supporting the zen home design.

2. Use the 1/3 rule when adding wooden elements

The 1/3 rule in interior design, particularly when it comes to incorporating wooden elements into a room, is a guideline that helps create balance without overwhelming the space. Applying the 1/3 rule can help unify the room's design. By distributing wooden features or accents strategically, you create a sense of flow and connection between different areas of the space. This can be especially effective in open-plan spaces where different functional areas need to be visually tied together.

  • In practice, implementing the 1/3 rule might mean choosing wooden flooring, ceiling or one of the walls as your primary wood element, then complementing it with wooden furniture or accents to reach that one-third visual coverage.
  • Or, in a room with neutral ceiling, walls and floors, adding wooden furniture, a wooden doors and wooden decor can achieve this balance.

3. Wooden Furniture and Wooden doors

Choose wooden furniture and wooden doors. For example in the living area: wooden dining table, wooden chairs, wooden coffee table, wooden kitchen furniture and some small items, this will do the magic. Being surrounded by natural materials like wood has been shown to reduce stress and promote a sense of well-being. Wooden furniture can help create a calm, grounding presence in a home, enhancing mental health and comfort. Wood adds warmth and coziness to any space, creating inviting and comfortable home interior.

Invest in your home. High-quality wooden furniture like oak, and teak are particularly known for their longevity, making wooden furniture a wise investment for the home. Teak is exceptionally durable and strong, resistant to rot, decay, and pests due to its natural oils and tight grain. This makes it ideal for furniture that lasts generations. Teak's resistance to weather, including rain, sun, and even snow, makes it an excellent choice for outdoor furniture. It doesn’t warp or crack easily under environmental stress.

Invest in your health. Wood has the natural ability to regulate humidity, absorbing and releasing moisture to maintain balance in the air. This home interior can contribute to healthier indoor environments, particularly beneficial for those with allergies. Wood can also improve a room's acoustics by reducing echoes and absorbing sound. This makes wooden furniture a great addition to music rooms, dining areas, and any space where a quieter, more serene atmosphere is desired.

4. Natural Materials & Extraordinary Details

In addition to wood, use other natural materials like bamboo, rattan, raffia and stone in your furniture and decor. Home interiors with a bamboo blinds, rattan chairs, marble coffee tables, and stone sculptures will bring a sense of authenticity to your space.

Add up to 3 extraordinary details which are made of similar natural materials. For example:

1. Extraordinary ceiling lamp from rattan, add cushion covers and baskets from rattan.
2. Pouff, cushions and plaid from similar patterns or cotton textile.
3. Wool or jute rugs which represent the same style, but in different size or shape. Area rugs made from wool or jute can ground a room with their natural textures, adding warmth underfoot and a cozy layer to the design.

Calm the rooms with linen Curtains. And its okay to use the same curtain all over the home! Its the same effect as using one colour. Using a single curtain scheme throughout a space creates a sense of unity and cohesion. Light, airy linen curtains let natural light filter through softly, creating a warm and welcoming ambiance while maintaining privacy.

5. Indoor & Outdoor Greenery

Integrate lush greenery into your home interior to mimic Bali's tropical environment. Place potted plants such as palms, ferns, cactus strategically around your home to add freshness and a connection to nature.

Position plants strategically throughout your home to create visual interest and improve air quality. Place larger plants in corners or as focal points, while smaller plants can be placed on shelves, tables, or hanging baskets.

Grouping plants together in clusters can create a lush, jungle-like atmosphere and make a bigger impact than scattering them individually. Experiment with different plant heights, textures, and varieties for added visual appeal. Mix flowering plants with foliage plants for seasonal interest and diversity.

6. Place For Tropical and Ethnic Room Jewelry

Decide on the location of your art space. It could be a specific room, a prominent wall in a living area, a hallway, or even a designated corner. Choose a location that receives adequate natural light and complements the scale of your artwork.

Decorate with ethnic accents like hand-carved wooden masks, any artwork. Mix and match room jewelry made from seashells, they are perfect for creating a coastal or beach-inspired vibe. The use of seashells in home interior or room decor can contribute to creating a light, airy, and serene ambiance, reminiscent of the beach and ocean. This can make spaces feel more open, relaxed, and inviting. Seashells often carry symbolic meanings of journeys, resilience, and the beauty of diversity.

7. Relaxation Zones Are Must Have

Create designated relaxation zones within your home where you can unwind and embrace Bali's laid-back lifestyle. Consider incorporating a meditation corner with floor cushions and incense burners or a cozy reading nook with a hammock chair and a selection of books.

Home interior relaxation zones with a view are tranquil spaces within a home designed to offer serene vistas of the surrounding natural landscape, whether it's a garden, a scenic vista, or a body of water. These areas are carefully curated to maximise the connection with nature, allowing you to find solace in the beauty of your home surroundings.
